Eligibility

To seek election for a position on council, you must be:

• 18 years of age at the time of nomination
• A Canadian citizen
• Ordinarily a resident in the City of Mount Pearl for 30 days immediately preceding the nomination period (August 28-29, 2025)
• You cannot be indebted to the City of Mount Pearl for arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the city, otherwise disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act.

Nomination Process

1. Confirm Eligibility
   Ensure you meet all eligibility criteria and are not disqualified under Section 15 of the Municipal Elections Act.
2. Secure Nominators
   You must have two nominators who are eligible voters and residents of Mount Pearl.
3. Book a Nomination Appointment
   Complete the Nomination Form and Declaration to request an appointment.
4. Submit a Clearance Certificate Request 
   Submit this form (coming soon!) to the election coordinator at least two business days before your nomination appointment to allow time for processing.
5. Pay the Nomination Fee
   Pay the $50 nomination fee at Mount Pearl City Hall. Email a copy of the receipt to elections@mountpearl.ca or bring it to your appointment.
6. Attend the Appointment
   You, your nominators, and your official agent (if applicable) must attend the nomination appointment to file the paperwork.
7. Access the Candidate Portal
   Once your nomination is accepted, you’ll receive access to the Candidate Portal, including an online copy of the Voters List.
8. Withdrawal Deadline
   You may withdraw your nomination within 24 hours after the close of nominations.

Oath or Affirmation of Secrecy

• Oath or Affirmation of Secrecy: use this form to affirm that any and all information received from the Voters List will be used solely for the purpose of the municipal election and will not otherwise be used or shared. Election NL’s Schedule B Oath of Secrecy form also needs to be completed.
