45 years ago, Wanda Tiller packed heart and belongings from Craigmillar Avenue,
brought it to Mount Pearl and became a “Pearl Girl” for life. It’s where she raised her
children, now it’s where they’re raising theirs.
For over 40 years, Wanda’s investment in Mount Pearl began as Girl Guides Leader,
receiving a Medal of Merit for Leadership. Intertwined comes 35 years with the Mount
Pearl Frosty Festival (Volunteer, Chair and Vice-Chair), Crossing Guard and Council
Member for Morris Academy School, Coaching Girls U9 – U11 Soccer, Volunteering with
Mazol Shiners, Sunday School Teacher and Board Member First United Church,
Volunteering with the Red Cross and Heart and Stroke foundation, member of the
Mount Pearl Kinettes and Transportation Supervisor for this year’s 2025 Canada
Games.
From this, Wanda developed a core perspective: You cannot do it alone. She believes a
unified people make everything happen, go to the people, learn from them and build
from what they have.
Before announcing her running for Council, Wanda began learning Municipal
Procedures, Bylaws and listening to Council meetings, then asked herself 3 questions:
Can her life’s community investment apply to this new venture? Does this make sense
right now? Was this for her? Her answers were yes, yes and yes.
Wanda has always held Mount Pearl as a community worth the effort and investment,
feels honoured to be your choice for Mount Pearl Councillor and vows to continue her
investment by becoming your voice for the future of a unified and safe Mount Pearl.
